The Writing Month

On Nanowrimo, Editing and Reflections

Samhain has ended and what a celebration it was. 31 posts across the season, all telling the same story. A mix of prose, monologue, poetry, flash fiction, and some more unusual styles. I'm still a little shocked at how well it all came together, but happy to have applied a little experimentation to my writing. Each post offered me a new chance to explore, a new opportunity to let the creative juices flow, and it worked. I wrote more in the past month than I have done in far too long. I honestly can't wait for next year when I can do it all again.

It was tiring and crazy and so, so much fun.

However, as many of you may have noticed, the final project didn't go off without a hitch. Some technical difficulties and a few minor hiccups have meant that the posts are a bit more muddled than I would like. With this in mind, I am planning to post the finished anthology on my Patreon alongside a few surprises.

If you're interested in seeing the full story as it was made to be published, please follow me there.

You'll gain access to my posting archive, as well as some Patreon-only content. As things move forward I will also be posting polls for suggestions on future experiments, so head over there to see everything I'm working on and support my continued endeavours in this wild world of writing.

Of course with how well last month went I think it's time I gave editing that novel another shot don't you think?

This time last year I announced my intentions to complete the edits of my novel during NaNoWriMo or National Novel Writing Month. Due to stress, illness, and a host of other bits of life that got in the way, my best-laid plans failed to come to fruition. It is with this in mind that I offer a compromise.

Over the next month, I will do my best to edit as much of Ash & Clockwork as possible.

I plan to share updates on my progress as well as some tidbits along the way; while making sure that I don't burn out all over again. I'm excited to give it another shot and even happier to have the support of the Manchester Wrimos community to cheer me on. The editing process can be a tricky one, and while I've found myself adept at editing other's work, I find my own a stumbling block. There is no harder advice to take than your own after all.

Join me on this journey as I strive to forge the masterpiece blade of a tale out of my hunk of metal manuscript.

I look forward to seeing what comes next and I hope you all enjoy the process with me. For now, sit back and bask in the aftermath of Samhain and the beginning of a new Celtic year.

Until the clock ticks its time again...
